As a national charity, Holiday Care has to work hard in an extremely
competitive environment to raise funds to provide our service.
Although holiday taking by disabled people may not have the emotive
pull of the work of charities dealing with children, animals and
those with life-threatening illness, we know just how important
our activities are.
Many disabled people lead lives based on a restrictive and demoralising
regime. The chance of a break of any kind can therefore be considerable
boost and can add considerably to the quality of their life. We
know this because disabled people have told us – and what’s
more we know too that our work makes a difference. Nearly 40 per
cent of those who contact us for information make holiday or travel
bookings within 12 weeks of hearing from us.
While we still receive some financial support from the tourist
boards, companies and trusts – and are most grateful for
it – we are having to generate more revenue from our own
activities to sustain our information service. So your help could
make a real difference.
If you’re reviewing what support you’d like to give
to charity, now or in the future, do please consider the work
of Holiday Care. There are nine million people in the UK with
disabilities, so at some point in your life disability will have
an impact on you, your family members or friends. Then think how
important an annual break is to you.
