Accessible Hotels,
B&Bs Farmhouses and Self Catering Accommodation throughout
the UK.
Holiday Care receives more than 80,000
enquiries a year about accessible tourism facilities. Many
of these are about accommodation.
Working with Britain’s national
and regional tourist boards, Holiday Care is accredited
to inspect accommodation in the UK against Tourism for All
National Accessible Scheme (NAS) standards.

These were originally drawn up in 1993 but have
been revised by the English Tourism Council (now VisitBritain)
working with the other national boards, the Tourism
for All Consortium and Holiday Care to incorporate the needs
of people with sensory impairment, as well as those with physical
disabilities. The new standards were introduced in 2002.
Holiday Care has a composite database of all UK accommodation
(hotels, B&Bs and self-catering) inspected under the 1993
scheme, which still gives a useful indication of the accessibility
of establishments for wheelchair users. This information is produced
in a series of Regional Information Guides –click here for
our Publications Order Form.
During 2002 the national and regional tourist boards and Holiday
Care began inspections against the new NAS standards. We will
be compiling a database based on these entries during 2003.
Accommodation Booking
Apart from providing information about accessible accommodation
in the UK, we also operate a booking service for our members,
the Friends of Holiday Care. Our Friends Unit has details of hundreds
of hotels offering accessible accommodation, often at special
Friends' rates.
Overseas Accommodation
Holiday Care’s overseas information guides identify accommodation
which we believe to be accessible based on information received.
However, we are not able to inspect overseas accommodation.
